I’m excited to tell you about my all-time favorite German Potato Soup! Just thinking about it makes me smile. Whenever I cook this Kartoffelsuppe I’m instantly reminded of my grandma's cozy kitchen where those amazing smells meant family was coming together with warm bowls in our hands.

Star Ingredients Snapshot

What really makes this soup taste so good is that classic mix of Suppengrün veggies! Bacon, leek, and celeriac cook together for the best rich flavor. Toss in soft Yukon Gold potatoes and savory chicken broth and it all just comes alive. Seeing everything blend into something so hearty is my favorite part.

Local Twists

My take uses the brothy style from Stuttgart I love, super flavorful and bursting with veggies! Some folks make it thick and creamy, but this version lets each veggie pop in a clear broth. You’ll love all the colors in your bowl!

Ready to Cook

Bacon Leads the Way
Fry the bacon till it’s crispy, then toss in onions to let them soak up all that good bacon flavor. Garlic comes next so your kitchen starts to smell amazing.
Load Up Veggies
Drop the veggies into those bacon juices and let them start working their magic.
Simmer Away
Let everything bubble slowly so all the awesome flavors come together. This part's just fun to watch.
Add Parsley Last
Sprinkle fresh parsley on top to brighten everything up and add a little freshness to the bowl!

Get the Best Taste

If you can, go for really fresh veggies and a top-notch chicken broth. It makes a big difference! Also, if you’re patient, let it chill in the fridge overnight—the flavors just get better after some time.

Top Pairings

Thick slices of rye bread are perfect for dunking in this soup! A cold glass of Riesling on the side gives it that true German flair. They make such a good pair!

Stay Delicious Longer

The taste actually gets even better over the next day or two! Just store it in the fridge and gently heat up another serving when you’re craving more. Skip the freezer—these veggies are best enjoyed fresh.

Why This One Hits the Spot

This bowl is pure comfort—warm, hearty, and packed with veggies. Every spoonful feels like a little treat and it’s perfect when you want to feed people or just cozy up by yourself. It’s a go-to in my house for a reason.

Customize It

Sometimes I’ll toss in some sliced bratwurst if I’m extra hungry, or swap in veggie broth to keep it meat-free. Adding a scoop of sour cream on top is awesome too! You can easily make it fit what you’re craving.

Good for Your Body

You get tons of healthy veggies with every bite but it still tastes super comforting. It’s one of those dishes that’s both yummy and good for you—right in the sweet spot!
