Italian Holiday Cookie (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - ½ cup softened salted butter.
02 - 2 large teaspoons of baking powder.
03 - 2¼ cups plain flour.
04 - ½ cup white granulated sugar.
05 - 3 eggs, large.
06 - 1½ teaspoons almond flavoring.
07 - Powdered sugar, 2 cups.
08 - 1 teaspoon almond flavoring.
09 - Milk, 2 to 3 tablespoons.
10 - Sprinkles (nonpareils).

# Instructions:

01 - Stir the baking powder and flour together in a small dish, then set it aside.
02 - Whip softened butter until fluffy. Beat in sugar, eggs, and almond flavoring until smooth but not fully blended.
03 - Pour in the dry mix, stirring lightly until it just comes together. Chill dough for 60 minutes or longer.
04 - Using a tablespoon or small scoop, roll the dough into small balls. Space them out an inch apart on a baking tray lined with parchment.
05 - Pop them into a 350°F oven and cook for about 8-10 minutes. The edges should be set but avoid overcooking. Let them cool fully.
06 - Gradually mix powdered sugar with milk until it becomes a thick glaze. Stir in almond flavor.
07 - Glaze the cooled cookies by dipping the tops, then set on a rack to let the excess fall off. Sprinkle on the nonpareils while wet.

# Notes:

01 - Chill the dough during batches to keep it workable.
02 - Overbaking will lead to dry cookies, so pull them out on time.
03 - Swap in vanilla or anise for the almond if desired.
