Velvety Snowballs (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - Room temperature unsalted butter (1/2 cup).
02 - Butter-flavored shortening (1/2 cup).
03 - One egg, warmed to room temperature.
04 - Three tablespoons of buttermilk.
05 - Half a teaspoon of white vinegar.
06 - Two teaspoons of red food dye.
07 - Two and a quarter cups of plain flour.
08 - A fourth of a cup of unsweetened cocoa.
09 - A quarter teaspoon of salt.
10 - One cup powdered sugar.
11 - Melted unsalted butter (1/4 cup for coating).
12 - One and a half cups of sifted powdered sugar for rolling.

# Instructions:

01 - Beat together shortening and butter until they mix smoothly.
02 - Add in the egg, vinegar, food dye, vanilla, and buttermilk. Mix on low until smooth.
03 - In a different bowl, whisk the flour, cocoa, salt, and one cup of powdered sugar.
04 - Add your dry mix into the wet mix slowly. Stir until a dough forms, then chill for an hour.
05 - Roll the dough into tablespoon-sized balls, spacing them apart by 2 inches. Bake at 350°F for 12 to 14 minutes.
06 - Dip the warm cookies in melted butter, then cover them in powdered sugar. Let cool, then recoat with powdered sugar.

# Notes:

01 - Chill the dough to keep the cookies from spreading too much.
02 - Layer cookies between parchment in a sealed container to store.
