Combine warm sugar water and milk in a big bowl, sprinkle yeast on top, and let it foam up for 5 minutes.

Mix in flour, salt, and melted butter. Knead it for about 4 minutes by hand or use a dough hook until smooth. If it’s sticky, add a bit more flour.

Put the dough in an oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and leave it alone for 20-30 minutes to double in size.

Set your oven to 450°F, cover baking sheets with parchment, and prepare the boiling water and soda solution.

Cut your dough into 12 parts, roll each into ropes around ¾-inch thick, and cut into 1-inch chunks.

Drop the dough bites into boiling water in small batches for 30 seconds each, then pop them onto lined pans.

Brush bites with egg wash, sprinkle with salt, and bake in the oven for 12-14 minutes until golden brown.

When warm, brush with more butter if you want and serve right away.
