Onion Gruyère Burger (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Burger

01 - 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
02 - Salt and pepper to taste
03 - 1 lb ground beef

→ Caramelized Onions

04 - 1/2 cup beef broth
05 - 1 teaspoon sugar
06 - 2 tablespoons butter
07 - 2 large onions, thinly sliced

→ Assembly

08 - 4 hamburger buns
09 - 1 clove garlic, minced (optional for garlic butter)
10 - Additional butter for buns
11 - 4 slices of Gruyère or Swiss cheese
12 - 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme)

# Instructions:

01 - In a big skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Toss in the sliced onions and sugar, stirring now and then. Cook them until they're golden and have that caramel-like sweetness, which takes about 20-25 minutes. If the onions stick, just add a splash of beef broth to loosen things up.
02 - Grab a large bowl and mix the ground beef with Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Once combined, shape the meat into 4 patties that are roughly the same size.
03 - Put the patties on a grill or cook them in a skillet until they're as done as you like.
04 - To make garlic butter buns, combine softened butter with minced garlic, spread it on the buns, and toast until they get a nice golden color.
05 - Start with the bottom half of the bun, add a cooked patty, stack on some caramelized onions, and lay a slice of cheese on top.
06 - Place the burgers under the broiler for a short time to melt the cheese until it bubbles.
07 - Sprinkle thyme leaves over the cheesy burgers, place the top bun on, and serve them hot.
