Set your oven to 350°F (177°C). Line an 8x8 pan with parchment so it hangs over the sides.

Microwave the butter till liquid—it should take about 60 seconds. Let it cool a bit, roughly 10-15 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, whisk together the salt, flour, and baking powder.

Mix together the slightly cooled butter and sugar. Add mashed bananas, vanilla, and the egg, gently stirring till it's all mixed.

Stir the dry mixture into the wet ingredients little by little. Fold in most of the chocolate chips, saving some for the top.

Pour the batter into the pan, sprinkle the extra chips on top. Bake for around 30-35 minutes until the center feels set and a toothpick comes out clean.

Cool completely. Use the parchment to lift out the bars, then slice them up.
