Peel the apples, then dice them into small pieces. Heat 20g of butter in a pan over medium heat. Toss in the apple chunks, sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Stir frequently and cook for 8-10 minutes, until the apples soften and get a light caramel color. Mash gently with a fork for a smoother spread.

Toast the bread slices either in a toaster or by frying them in a pan with a little butter.

Spread the remaining butter over the warm bread, then generously layer the apple butter on top. For an extra treat, try drizzling some honey or serving with a scoop of vanilla ice cream alongside.
